The weather is warming up and summer will be here before we know it. One of our favorite sunny day activites is getting together with friends and family and enjoying a cocktail and our favorite foods on a warm night. Everyone loves a classic margarita and making one from scratch is surprisingly simple. The magic ingredients is homemade simple syrup.If you can boil water, you can make simple syrup.
Mix your homemade simple syrup with triple sec, tequila and lime juice and you have yourself a tasty margarita. Impress your friends this Cinco de Mayo with a homemade lime margarita.
Simple Syrup
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water

- 1 oz simple syrup
- 1 oz triple sec
- 1.5 oz tequila
- 1 oz lime juice
This recipe uses homemade simple syrup which is very easy to make. Take one cup of white sugar and one cup of water and bring them to a boil in a sauce pan. Once boiling, remove from the heat and let it cool completely. The simple syrup will last approximately one week in the fridge.
Next, squeeze from fresh lime juice and blend it with tequila, triple sec, ice cubes and the simple syrup. You can experiment with the amount of lime juice and ice. Start with about one ounce of lime juice and 5 ice cubes per drink and add more to suit your taste. Blend everything in your blender until the ice is completely crushed.
Serve your margaritas in glasses rimmed with crushed sea salt and garnish with fresh lime slices.
