Cuddle up with the Best Books to Read This Winter for Boys

I don’t know what it is about the wintertime, but it always seems like the perfect time to gather your favorite books, get comfy, and just relax and get carried away to a far away land in a good book. My boys love reading and I am so happy that I was able to pass on my love for reading to them. They love the stories and the fantasy and magical aspect of the books. Especially books that are centered around boys their own age. It allows them to feel that they can place themselves into that book and they are the hero of the story. It’s amazing. Plus, since it’s finally getting colder out, there is no better time to for them to grab their favorite books or find a new favorite one this winter.

My oldest son is 10 years old and has had a bit of a learning disability when it comes to reading and comprehension. It has been a bit of a struggle for him and it got to the point where he started to not like reading. It broke my heart but we never gave up. Finally, after a few rough years, he is able to read not only on his level, but he”s reading books beyond what I could have imagined him reading. One of those that helped him along the way was the Diary of the Wimpy Kid books. They are fun, interesting, and easy to read for him. With the latest edition just released, it tops our must-read list along with 4 other amazing books we cannot get enough of. These have all been read and approved by my 10-year-old son and are his favorites. Now, my younger son is ready and eager to get started on these as well.

  1. Diary of a Wimpy Kid – The Getaway by Jeff Kinney
  2. Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
  3. Wonder by R.J. Palacio
  4. Dog Man A Tale of Two Kitties by Dav Pilkey
  5. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

Those books may be a bit too advanced for some kids, so I asked my younger son, who is 8, what his favorite books are and ones that he can’t get enough. My younger son loves to read every chance he can. He loves to dive into a good book and his favorite is the Harry Potter series. But, what he loves most is sitting down and reading some of his old favorites like Splat the Cat and who doesn’t love Walter the Farting Dog!

  1. Splat the Cat and the Snowy Day Surprise by Rob Scotton
  2. The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling
  3. Water the Farting Dog by William Kotwinkle
  4. The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf
  5. Dinosaurs Before Dark – Magic Tree House #1 by Mary Pope Osborne
