How to Stay Fit While Traveling
Staying fit while traveling is easier said than done. Most often, as we pack to leave, we forgo the workout gear in favor of another pair of shoes or a few more “just in case” outfit options. Like you, we’ve all been there! It seems like a good idea at the time, but then somewhere between eating out multiple meals in the day and spending more time sitting than you expected, you come home feeling more out of shape than when you left. Don’t let this happen to you! Packing your workout gear is the first step and we’ve got some other tips for you to help you stay on track while you’re traveling.
- Book a hotel with a workout facility… preferably one that’s open 24/7 with the use of your key card. Staying at a hotel with fitness amenities eliminates the first excuse not to hit the gym while you’re there. Even it’s for 20-30 minutes first thing in the morning or in the evening before you go to bed, you’ll be glad you took the time to burn those calories.
- Free gym passes. All gym’s have a one day pass for those who want to try out their facility. Our recommendation is to find a couple local spots for yoga, circuit training, bootcamp, maybe a hip hop workout class so you’re able to slip in, try out a class and slip out without being stuck chatting with the sales person trying to sell you on a package. The Class Pass app is another great way to find a class to join.
- Go for a run or even a brisk walk. Put that Fitbit on and get stepping! Sometimes the best thing you can do when you’re traveling is get outdoors and let the fresh air clear your head. Make sure to take your phone with you so you have great music in your ears to motivate you and directions back to your hotel when you’re done.
- Pack your workout. If you don’t know when you’ll be able to slip in a workout on your trip, pack your favorite fitness pals and take them with you. From a travel yoga mat to circuit training bands, these tools will help you get your heart rate up without leaving the privacy of your hotel room. You can always add in some push ups, burpies and sit ups for good measure too. If you need help packing your workout to travel with you, we’ve included a couple of our favorite travel fitness pals below.
