Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats
Fall is in the air and we are in the mood for baking some tasty autumn treats. We don’t want to let our dogs miss out on all the fun so today we are sharing a fun recipe for homemade dog treats featuring one of our favorite fall ingredients, pumpkin!
This dog treat recipe uses ingredients you probably already have in your pantry and can be made in less than an hour.
Best of all, your fur babies will love them!
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 strips bacon, cooked
- 1/2 cup pumpkin, canned
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour plus more
- 3/4 cup milk
Directions
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees and grease two baking sheets
Mix the egg, peanut butter, pumpkin and milk in a bowl.
In a separate bowl whisk together the flour and baking soda.
Chop up the bacon and stir it into the flour mixture.
Slowly stir the dry mixture into the wet mixture adding about 1/3 at a time.
Sprinkle some flour on your work surface and knead your dough, adding flour as you go. Stop adding flour when the dough stops sticking to your hands and the counter.
Separate the dough into two sections and roll each one out with a rolling pin until it is ¼ to 1/8 of an inch thin.
Use a dog bone shaped cookie cutter to make the treats into a bone shape.
Carefully transfer the unbaked cookies onto the cookie sheets.
Cook 14-16 minutes. Then remove from the oven, flip over and cook an additional 14-16 minutes.
When done, let them cool completely on a drying rack.
Store up to two weeks in the fridge in an air tight container, or up to 6 months in the freezer.
