Summer Watermelon Margarita Cocktail

Summer is officially started and for us that means good food, friends and fun drinks. We love making my own versions of classic recipes and this Watermelon Margarita is just that- a light and refreshing twist on the classic and the best part- we found everything we needed on our last trip to Target and a few extras too.

We do not like our margaritas overly sour so we found that using Simply Limeade is the perfect substitution for sour mix and we love the fresh squeezed taste that it gives to your drinks. This would also be a good option for a cherry limeade drink too.

Puree 1/2 of a seedless watermelon to make watermelon juice, add a few teaspoons of sugar depending on how sweet you enjoy your drinks. The recipe below is for a pitcher of watermelon margaritas but you can very easily just make these by the glass. We are partial to drinks to having equal parts limeade to watermelon.

Another family favorite are Sour Patch Watermelon candy. We always have a few boxes in the pantry and that makes the perfect garnish for these watermelon margaritas- add a cute flamingo straw, a “cheers” stirring straw and you are all set for a festive afternoon. Can you picture it?

Watermelon Margarita

Ingredients

1/2 seedless watermelon, pureed.

2-3 teaspoon granulated sugar

1 bottle Simply Limeade

1/2 cup tequila

coarse salt for rims of glass, if desired

Directions

Pour a small amount of the watermelon puree on to a plate.

Dip the rim of your glass into the liquid and then into the salt, set aside.

In a pitcher combine the tequila, watermelon and limeade. Stir well.

Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Add ice to the glass or pitcher.

Garnish and serve.

We love using the watermelon juice to wet the glass rim before dipping in the salt because it makes your salt pink. Everything is better with a little pink! These drinks are refreshing and beautiful to look at, not to mention the perfect accessory for a summer get together, pool party, barbecue or tailgate.

Be sure to pick up all of your necessary ingredients on your next trip to Target. Don’t forget to look in the Dollar Spot for adorable decor to make your parties a bit more special. They had a bunch of flamingo accessories that were on point as well as this bar sign on a palm leaf and we all know that leaves and flamingos are a must have this summer.
