A fresh new year is a perfect time to go through your closet and take inventory of the items you have and make a list of the items that you want to add to your closet. Something I have learned over the last few years is that you can easily elevate your style and your closet with minimal pieces. A few closet rules I live by;
- Invest in basics, and spend little on trendy items.
- Elevate your style by wearing neutral colors and adding pops of color for interest in your shoes and accessories.
Trends come and go, so I don’t want to spend a ton of money on those items. I want to invest in basic pieces that I can wear again and again that will wear and wash well. Secondly, I feel like my style is at its best when I’m wearing neutral colors but adding interest with color in my accessories, jewelry, and shoes.
So with these tips in mind, I’ve shopped and scoured Target for some of the most adorable trendy items and affordable basics.
Target is my go to place for denim, most people might argue with me here but I love their denim and every pair I’ve ever had has lasted me well and washed well too! I highly suggest stocking up when they have their BOGO sales a couple times per year. Target is also one of the best places to grab long sleeve and short sleeve tees in a variety of colors. I have several of their tees and they are great for layering all year long.
Some trendy pieces to add that won’t break the bank are these faux leather leggings, styled with a over sized cowl neck sweater. I love mixing textures and fabrics like this, I think it really makes a stylish effort.
I’m following a lot of those same rules mentioned earlier with my accessories. I’ve always loved fun shoes! I almost love accessories more than actual clothing, but I really think they can add a lot to your outfits everyday! Target’s shoes lately are killing it! They have so many awesome shoes to add, that are very trendy and some classics as well!
For bags this year I’m loving the backpack trend in a neutral color, of course, if you’re a mom being hands-free is amazing. If you don’t have a pair of black sunnies yet, get yourself a pair. There a basic to any closet and very chic.
